Knitter's Review
December 4, 2014
sampling Cormo 2.0

After more than a decade of writing about other people's yarn, I've recently been trying my hand at making it myself.

I wanted to work with American sheep farmers and textiles producers, to learn their challenges and their joys, and bring greater attention to the work they do. It's been exhilarating to make yarn on a larger scale.

It began with a bale of superfine Saxon Merino, which was quickly followed by two bales of American Cormo from a family ranch in Montana and nearly the entire clip of a CVM/Romeldale farm in Pennsylvania. This fall, I finally popped open that second bale of Cormo with the intent of creating something really special. And this week, I share the whole yarn-making story with you.

Heifer Holidays
The arrival of December brings one of my favorite Knitter's Review traditions: our year-end Heifer International fundraising drive. Many organizations need and deserve support, but Heifer touches a soft spot in my heart because it works with the gift of nature (whether through livestock or trees) and education. Won't you pop over to our Knitter's Review registry and give what you can?

In the New Year
We've just uploaded the 2015 calendar of events! While we were able to update most of the major events, some (marked with an asterisk) we still couldn't verify. If you see such a listing and know the facts, please email them to us and we'll update the calendar. In the meantime, what will you do in 2015?

In the Forums: Fess Up
Pam in the Colorado mountains has issued a challenge: Fess up to your less-than-desirable knitting habits. What are yours?
