Foodies seek the genuine New York bagel, writers flock to the pen allegedly favored by Hemingway.

And knitters? We're enticed by yarns that are deeply rooted in place or tradition. Few regions have as rich a knitting tradition as Ireland, which is where we head this week for a long-overdue look at the heritage yarns from Black Water Abbey.

Addicted to Sheep?
For 18 months, filmmaker Magali Pettier has been chronicling the daily life of a tenant farming family in the UK's Upper Teesdale region. Her goal is to make a feature-length documentary of their life, fittingly called, "Addicted to Sheep." Filming complete, she needs our help to shepherd the film through post-production and onto the big screen. View the trailer and see how you can help.

Coming Up
Kicking off the fiber festival season this weekend is the 105th annual Connecticut Sheep and Wool Festival at the Tolland Agricultural Center in Vernon.

The grand Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival happens May 3 and 4 at the Howard County Fairgrounds in West Friendship, Maryland. I'll be roaming the fairgrounds on Saturday and hope to see you there.

For those who like to plan ahead, please join me on Saturday May 17 in Manchester, New Hampshire, for an evening of storytelling, pictures, and even recipes, all part of Interweave Knitting Lab.

These and hundreds more can be found at our calendar of upcoming events.

As always, I thank you for letting me be a part of your knitting life.

We'll talk again on May 8th!
