Knitter's Review
May 9, 2013
Pioneer in a sunbeam

Like people, some yarns are better storytellers than others. This week, I present a veritable Mark Twain of yarns, one that combines not one but two story lines.

You may recognize the names Kristine Vejar and Sally Fox—the former for her pioneering work in natural dye, the latter for her pioneering work in organic naturally colored cotton. They have now come together in a yarn fittingly called Pioneer.

Bale Bash
I'm traveling to Oakland, California, to see Kristine's dye process for myself. Join me on May 15th at her shop, A Verb for Keeping Warm, for a talk about my Great White Bale project. Just a few spots are still available, and I'd love to see you there.

Upcoming Events
This weekend two great festivals happen, the first in Deerfield, New Hampshire and the second in Lake Elmo, Minnesota. Then, on May 18th, the Rhode Island Wool and Fiber Festival takes place at the Coggeshall Farm Museum in Bristol. The weekend of the 18th and 19th, you'll find yet more great festivals in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, Lexington, Kentucky, and Riverhead, New York. It's the busiest festival season I've ever seen.

In the Forums: Software for Soft Wear?
Peggy is looking for opinions on knitwear design software. She has Sweater Wizard and is looking at Cochenille. Do you have any experience or recommendations for her?
