Knitter's Review
March 28, 2013
2-ply laceweight BFL from Blacker Yarns, with three seashells

Maybe it's the extra sunlight, or the tweet-tweet-tweeting of the birds, or the fact that my tulips have finally popped through the soil. I've got spring fever. With it comes a desire to shed the bulkies and knit something airy and optimistic, something like lace.

As if on cue, I just received a squishy package from the United Kingdom. It contained a most perfect example of what happens when you take good wool and spin it as it was meant to be spun. It's a two-ply laceweight Bluefaced Leicester from Blacker Yarns. Shall we pull out the Barbara Walker and swatch some lace stitches?

Upcoming Events
Please join me on Saturday, April 6th, as we celebrate the grand opening of Saco River Yarns in Biddeford, Maine. I'll be there from 9am to 2pm sneaking people into the Saco River Dyehouse for a peek at what remains of the Great White Bale. That evening, head down to Cambridge, Massachusetts, to celebrate the release of Amy Herzog's new book, Knit to Flatter. The gathering takes place at the Masonic Hall of Cambridge from 7-9pm, and it's a perfect chance to discover which sweater style and shape works for you.

In the Forums: From Past to Present
Kathy loves to leaf through old knitting books and magazines for inspiration. Usually she'll just lift a stitch motif or pattern and use it in something else. But she'd love to experiment more with old patterns. Do you have any tips that might make this easier?

As ever, I thank you for letting me be a part of your knitting life.

I'll talk to you again on April 11!
