We've gone from fall to winter seemingly overnight. There's frost on the rooftops, and I can see my own breath when I walk outside. It's time for warm yarn, and fast.

Most of us have already fallen prey to the temptation that is brushed mohair. It usually comes in a very fine weight best suited for lace. But this week I show you a yarn that takes this lace-weight strand of brushed heaven and knits it into a thick, spongy tube. Suddenly you go from lace to barely 2 stitches per inch. And the fabric? A perfect winter embrace.

This weekend
I'm writing this from Canandaigua, New York, where the 11th annual Knitter's Review Retreat is already underway. (I'll tell you all about it next week.) But in Boerne, Texas, something far bigger has been going on for 24 years now: The Kid 'N Ewe and Llamas Too fiber arts festival. In addition to 50+ workshops, the event features more than 40 vendors, a handspun competition, fiber-to-fashion demonstration, and a Texas Cashmere Association show.
