Titus in action

Magical as it is, Iceland doesn't have a monopoly on yarn. This week we hop the pond to England for a look at a new, distinctly local creation from British yarn purveyor Baa Ram Ewe.

It blends Wensleydale and Bluefaced Leicester with a surprise: UK alpaca. The yarn is named after Sir Titus Salt, the Yorkshire wool manufacturer and philanthropist who popularized a fashionable cloth called "alpaca" in the mid-1800s.

Introducing Titus.

This weekend in New Mexico
Picture a brilliant blue sky, tall mountains, tan-colored adobe walls, colorful Russian sage and hollyhocks in their last bloom of the season. The fragrance of roasting chiles fills the air. You're in Taos, New Mexico, for the 29th-annual Wool Festival at Taos—which takes place this Saturday and Sunday at the Kit Carson Park. It's an intimate, charmed gathering with all the proper fixings: workshops, a juried selection of regional vendors, demonstrations, food vendors, and live music.

In the Forums: Start Planning
Grand-moogi has decided to knit and crochet little Christmas gifts this year. So far she's been making tea towels and dishcloths, but she's looking for ideas. What else should she make?
