Knitter's Review
June 28, 2012
Schulana Luxair

I'm just back from the summer TNNA in Columbus, Ohio. I got a sneak peek at the new knitting products coming out this fall. Most of what I saw won't reach shops for several months, but let me sum it up for you: prepare for more color, more glitter, and more needles.

Westward Ho
Shaniko, Oregon, may be considered Oregon's best-known ghost town—but in 1903 it was considered the largest inland wool shipping center in the world. This weekend, the town welcomes the sixth-annual Shaniko Wool Gathering. The event features all the fine trappings of a fiber festival, including a sheep to shawl competition, fiber artists and vendors, and a tour of Imperial Stock Ranch. You'll also learn about "homesteading" activities such as blacksmithing, leathercrafting, and sewing.

In the Forums: Stretchy Stuff
CrystalCactus wants to add stretchiness to the band of a knitted beret and is thinking elastic would do the trick. Have you tried elastic, or do you have other tips for creating a stretchy band in your fabric?
