Knitter's Review

needle tips and dyed top

Three companies have each come out with fun new stuff for the fall.

First, let's peek at Montana Mountain's needle-of-the-month club, then we'll try to prevent rough skin with the new Knitters Hands lotion bar, and finally let's see just how tiny the holes are in the new lace needlesizer from Debra's Garden. Here we go.

This Weekend in California
The 12th annual California Wool and Fiber Festival takes place this weekend at the Mendocino County Fairgrounds in Boonville, just 100 or so miles up the coast from San Francisco. A fair within a fair, the festival is held during the Mendocino County Fair and Apple Show and features vendors, demonstrations, and workshops. This year's teachers include Rosemary Hill and Nancy Finn, owner of Chasing Rainbows Dyeworks.

Going for the G-20
At the 2006 Nato Summit in Latvia, volunteers knit 4,500 pairs of Latvian mittens—each set unique—for all the guests. Next week delegates will arrive in Pittsburgh, PA, for the G-20 Summit, and knitters are at it again. This time they're knitting a large banner containing the national flags of all 20 countries attending the summit. It will greet delegates upon their arrival at the airport. The project was spearheaded by Pittsburgh LYS Knit One, with each flag being knit by one of 20 volunteers.

In the Forum: How Much?
Many of us spot a yarn at our LYS, become instantly hooked, and have to take it home with us. Nanci had this happen recently, and she wants to know how you handle it. Do you wait, or bring a ton home with you, or do you practice restraint and only acquire one or two skeins for swatching?
