Juniper sock yarn on Deer Isle Granite

Ever notice how most superwash Merino sock yarns look alike? They're all either a bouncy two-ply or a smooth three- or four-ply, with very little variation. But this week I show you something different, a multi-strand superwash Merino sock yarn from Alchemy. It flew in under the radar and definitely deserves a second look.

Knit Happens in New York
Did you know that the Tony award-winning actor John Glover knits? Last Friday, a New York Times article explained how Glover learned from a wardrobe director in the 1960s and then fell back into the craft during a recent stint on the TV show "Smallville." Meanwhile, last Thursday just across the river in Brooklyn more than two dozen volunteers in Brooklyn Heights adorned 69 Montague Street parking meters with handknit cozies. The installation will remain up until mid-June.

In the Forum: Off the Cuff
Has anybody tried knitting a sweater from cuff to cuff instead of from the top down or bottom up? Are the results really worth learning a new technique?
