Knitter's Review
February 19, 2009

Lofty marketing claims bring out the cynic in me. When a product asserts that it is the best, the ultimate, the only anything, I immediately set about to prove it true or false.

Which is why the cover of Margaret Radcliffe's The Knitting Answer Book set me in motion. It claims to offer solutions to every problem I'll ever face, answers to every question I'll ever ask. True? Let's find out.

Bushfire Appeal
The Australian state of Victoria is still reeling from the bushfires that devastated more than 700 homes and took—as of this writing—201 lives. Local resources are stretched thin and help is desperately needed. Knitblogger Serendipity has launched a bushfire appeal fundraiser to benefit the Australian Red Cross. Can you help?

Knitting and Memory
Does regular knitting significantly reduce your risk of developing dementia? It may be true, according to recent findings by the Mayo Clinic. Those people studied between the age of 50 and 65 who remained mentally active through activities such as knitting, reading, and games had a 40% reduced risk of what they call "memory impairment." Yet another reason to carve 20 minutes of knitting time for yourself each day.
