  This week we finally hear from an old friend, Jo Sharp.
For years this Australian designer was the toast of the town, and then she unexpectedly grew silent. Many wondered, in fact, if we'd ever hear from her again.
After taking her new yarn out for a test drive, I can say with confidence that our friend is back and better than ever.
New This Week
It's a simple recipe: Take a batch of fine wool, add a little bit of silk for good measure, and then sprinkle it with just enough cashmere to leave people wondering. Send it to Italy for refinement, knit it into richly textured garments, and you have Jo Sharp's new yarn, Silkroad, in a nutshell.
Interweave Discount... No, Really!
In our previous newsletter, many of you noticed that the link to the Interweave Knits discount details didn't work. This was not one of my finest moments, and I sincerely apologize.
Instead of giving you another link, allow me to explain all the details right here. Through December 15, 2002, you can get four issues of Interweave Knits for $19.95 instead of the standard rate, $24. The discount applies to renewals as well as new subscriptions.

Holiday Cards are Here!
That's right, now you can share your love of fiber with friends and family through our new holiday cards. They're slightly smaller than our blank notecards, which means no staring at a huge sea of white space and thinking, "Goodness, I have to write 30 of these in the next week?!"
To make these cards as portable as your knitting, I picked a clear vinyl book-like pouch to hold them. All the images are mine, the inside messages vary, and three of the cards are yarn-free and show just how beautiful December is here in Downeast Maine.
Our Year-End Gift
Last year I briefly mentioned the Heifer Project, an innovative nonprofit group that helps families in 115 countries move toward self-sufficiency by giving them one of 25 types of breeding livestock -- including sheep. The program is particularly innovative because families spend a year in training and agree to pass on the first female animal offspring and their own know-how to other needy families. In essence, the gift of one animal helps transform an entire community.
That's why this month, on behalf of the entire Knitter's Review community, we will be giving a sheep to a deserving family through the Heifer Project.
And, as icing on the cake, I'll also pick five newsletter subscribers at the end of this month to receive our 2003 Year in Yarn calendar.
