Charity Knitting: Warm the City

Begun in response to the September 11th tragedy, this already-successful charity effort was founded by Claudia Krisniski, owner of Husdon, N.Y.-based yarn shop Countrywool. "With heavy hearts and helping hands," writes Claudia, "we are gathering together to knit items to keep our fellow displaced and disillusioned New Yorkers warm this up-and-coming winter. Many folks who were homeless before the planes hit and the buildings fell, will be joined by others." She is soliciting hats, sweaters, scarves, gloves, mittens, and afghans that will be forwarded to the appropriate charity and relief groups. She asks that you work a knitted heart into any object you make, and knit in all the love and energy you can. She provides free patterns for these items on her Web site.
