March 29, 2001

Last Sunday's New York Times had a tribute to knitting that caught my eye. For those of you who didn't see the article tucked away in the Style section, here's a short version.

Matchmaker Matchmaker

Jeff Jacobs, a diehard Yankees fan and self-proclaimed "guy's guy," was still looking for the right girl. A friend told him that he and Jordana Merlis, the 32-year-old co-owner of New York City's YarnCo, would be perfect together.

What He Did for Love

Jeff paid a visit to the shop, and one visit turned into many. Soon he was spending every Saturday morning there, and Jordana, naturally, insisted he learn to knit.

He did, and, much to his surprise, enjoyed it. Today, when not working as a senior financial consultant for Merrill Lynch, Jacobs knits tiny baby hats that Jordana sells at the shop.

A Happy Ending

On March 16th, the two knitters were wed atop Bald Mountain in Sun Valley, Idaho. In true style, Jeff wore a black cap knitted just for him by Jordana.

I dedicate this issue to the happy couple. May they have a long, love- and yarn-filled life together.

Back to Business

This week we return to our yarn reviews with a look at Lily, an interesting new cotton/silk blend from Noro. I also review a beautiful book by knitting royalty Meg Swansen.
