March 14, 2001
I used to belong to the laissez-faire school of knitting. Mitten has two thumbs? Make it into a puppet. Forgot to turn the heel to a sock? Wear it anyway and hope that nobody notices.
The Burden of Luxury
Once the yarn prices start to rise, so does the pressure to create the perfect garment. Just yesterday I frogged an entire Colinette sweater whose yarn was exquisite but pattern ghastly. Who needs that? Isn't knitting supposed to be fun?
Keeping it Simple
Don't get me wrong, Mercedes yarns have their place. But sometimes you just want to relax and toss a hearty yarn on the old needles. With that in mind, this week I review a lovely yet rugged cotton from Mission Falls.
Grandma Goes High-Tech
I also take a long-overdue look at the recently overhauled online branch of Patternworks, one of America's most beloved yarn shops.
