July 9, 2015 Knitting is a simple process, a binary language made up of two digits: the knit and the purl. We have other tricks—the yarn-over, the decrease, wrapping and slipping and dropping—but, generally speaking, it all hinges on either a knit or a purl stitch. Barbara Walker documented what seemed to be every possible stitch pattern in her Knitting Treasury books. Yet more stitch dictionaries keep coming, each treading familiar water. That is, until now.
