Knitter's Review

Empire and an apple

After more than a month of yarn globetrotting, I'm home again this week. On my needles is a distinctly American creation from Jill Draper Makes Stuff, one of the many vendors in attendance at Interweave Knitting Lab last weekend.

It's called Empire, and it caught my eye for many reasons: the colors, the twist, but more than anything, the size. It comes in enormous hanks the size of two human heads put together.

This weekend
We have no shortage of knitterly distractions going on around the world this weekend. In the UK, Shetland Wool Week is well underway in the Shetland Islands. Stitches East is rolling along in Hartford, Connecticut, while in Ketchum and Hailey, Idaho, the streets will be packed for the Trailing of the Sheep Festival. Check out our events calendar to find an event close to you.

In the Forums: Blankie Yarn
Kate is an Adirondack gal who knits for warmth. But her friend in Florida asked her to knit a simple striped afghan. Since heavy wool is off the table, Kate is stumped. What kind of yarn should she use?

As always, I thank you for your readership and your support.

Talk to you next week!
