Knitter's Review

A Cormo/Angora yarn with a summer peony

For some of us knitters, dishcloths are like catnip. We can't stop knitting them.

Lion Brand recently tossed its hat into the dishcloth-friendly yarn arena with a new cotton called, quite fittingly, Kitchen Cotton. When I saw it, I knew I had to call in the big guns. I've asked Kay Gardiner, one of my favorite pro-cotton writers and the northernmost voice of Mason-Dixon Knitting, to put Kitchen Cotton through its paces. Here's her report.

Stitch Keepers Winners
Holy moly! More than 280 of you wrote me with stories about what peril would befall your DPNs if their ends weren't protected. I met countless dogs and cats and even a pet rat who loves to nibble the ends off a stray wooden needle. I heard of dropped needles on trains, airplanes, and buses—and one particularly harrowing story of a project that fell out of a car and slowly unraveled, row by row, as the car took off. I learned that many non-knitters consider DPNs ideal barbecue skewers, ear-scratchers, and even toothpicks.

How I wish I had a set of Stitch Keepers for each entry because they were that good. The two winners, Anne and Tamara, have been notified by email, and I truly thank you all for playing along.

This Weekend
The Massachusetts Sheep and Woolcraft Fair takes place at the Cummington Fairgrounds in Cummington, Massachusetts. If you're further south, maybe the Middle Tennessee Fiber Festival is more up your alley. It'll happen at the Dickson County Fairgrounds in Dixon, Tennessee. And in Wooster, Ohio, the Great Lakes Fiber Show will unfold in the Wayne County Fairgrounds on Saturday and Sunday.

In the Forums: Blocking Tips?
Pat just finished a gorgeous lace project using pure silk yarn and is ready to block. Do you have any advice about how she should do it?
