San Diego hosted the National NeedleArts Association's semiannual trade show last weekend. I went not knowing what I'd find, given the tough economic conditions.

I'm glad to report that we're doing OK. Here are five of my personal takeaways from the show.

The International Year of Natural Fibres
Back in 2006, the General Assembly of the United Nations decided to designate 2009 the International Year of Natural Fibres—and that year officially begins today, January 22nd. In honor of this important event, Wild Fibers Magazine has launched Keep the Fleece, a contest that will culminate in a special event at the New York Sheep and Wool Festival in October. Happy International Year of Natural Fibres, everybody!

In the Forum: Knitting Journals
What began as a quest for knitting journal sources has become a broader discussion about how to make our own knitting journals and what to put inside. Do you keep a knitting journal, and if so, what's it like?
