Knitter's Review June 16, 2005
|
We visit yarn stores to stock up on yarn, fellowship, and inspiration. But where do yarn store owners go for their yarn, fellowship, and inspiration?
Last weekend they went to Columbus, Ohio, for the summer NeedleArts Market. Designer, teacher, and writer Cat Bordhi takes us on a whirlwind insider's tour of the show.
Goodbyes
Parting can be such sweet sorrow, especially when it involves yarn. I've just learned that two of the most memorable yarns I've ever reviewed are being discontinued. Jaeger Chamonix and Cashair are both luxurious and pricey. But with the news of their demise, many retailers are marking down all remaining stock. Let's help these two great ladies go out with a bang, shall we?
Interweave Sold
In other, equally significant news, Interweave Press has been acquired by Aspire Media, a venture capital-backed acquirer and publisher of consumer-based magazines. Unlike Jaeger's news, however, this doesn't necessarily spell the immediate demise of any Interweave publications—including our beloved Interweave Knits and Spin-Off.
Interweave President and Publisher Marilyn Murphy reassured me that the few, carefully selected potential buyers "saw a strong healthy company who is not short on ideas, has a strong reputation in the markets we serve, are passionate about what we do, and the best staff I've ever had the privilege of working with—who would want to mess that up?" All employees are staying, and Interweave founder Linda Ligon will remain on board as Creative Director.
