Knitter's Review September 5, 2003
|
Recently I've been asked to participate in several group afghan projects.
Dozens of people are usually involved, each knitting one square of his or her own design. They're collected and assembled into a giant crazy quilt and presented to the lucky recipient.
Whether intended for a person who needs a lift, a newborn, a newlywed couple, or anybody else, these afghans are becoming increasingly popular as group projects. This week I review a special book that may come in handy the next time you're invited to participate in such a project.
Also New This Week
September is alpaca month, and we begin by asking what an alpaca is exactly, why the fiber is so highly prized, and how it works as a yarn. Find out the answers.
Big Yarn Tools on the Run
Announced last week, the tortoise-shell plastic NeedleSizer tool has already flown off the shelves. Through September 10th we're offering a very special deal: Buy one plastic NeedleSizer and get the second one at half-price. (Simply choose the "special sale" option when ordering.) And while supplies last, your NeedleSizer will have a vintage glass bead ornament.

KR Retreat Reminder: Color Workshop
Although the weekend rooms are all booked, you're all invited to join us on November 8 for the Saturday workshop portion of the second-annual Knitter's Review Retreat in Syria, Virginia. You'll learn principles and techniques for combining colors with team teachers Annie Modesitt and Bess Haile. Stay for dinner and enjoy an evening of spinning and knitting by the large stone fireplace in our meeting room!
September Prize
September is when students start to hit the books again. Even if you're not a student, you can still hit the books with our September prize: a $50 gift certificate to Amazon.com. Simply stay subscribed and you'll automatically be in the drawing at the end of this month.
As always, thank you for your readership. Happy knitting, and I'll see you in the forums!
