Knitter's Review
August 7, 2003

High Tide, a new KR CardWhether you like it or not, August is here. When I look out my windows and across the field outside, I can see that my tall grasses have turned from vibrant green to a yellow hue.

In the knitting world, the arrival of August can only mean one thing: Time to think about switching from cottons to warmer fibers. For those of you who love cotton, I have good news. You don't need to ditch cotton when colder weather arrives.

This month we'll explore cotton yarns that have been beefed up with warmer fibers. We begin with a brand new designer blend of cotton and cashmere from Debbie Bliss.

New This Week
Fine-nibbed pens give you a crisp line at first, but they inevitably grow dull with use. The same was true for Debbie Bliss' brand new Cotton Cashmere, which lost its precision with wear. Does this mean the yarn was a dud? Not necessarily.

Boutique Brief: The Big Yarn Goes Budget
In just a few weeks, we'll launch an exciting addition to The Big Yarn line of knitting tools -- a plastic version of the popular NeedleSizer tool!

KR Retreat: Color Workshop
If color coordination eludes you, then you'll want to join us on November 8 for the Saturday portion of the second-annual Knitter's Review Retreat in Syria, Virginia. You'll learn principles and techniques for combining colors. Stay for dinner and join us for a special evening surprise!

In the Forums: Celebs and Knitting
Should celebrity knitters be used to endorse knitting simply because they're famous, or should there be more to it?

Forgot your forum username or password? We'll email them to you.

August Prize
It's never too soon to start stocking up on back-to-school stuff. That's why at the end of this month we'll pick one subscriber to win a $50 gift certificate to L.L. Bean. Simply stay subscribed to this newsletter and you could win.

As always, thank you for your readership. Happy knitting, and I'll see you in the forums!
