Knitter's Review May 8, 2003
|
Tape yarns are the knitterly equivalent of shoelaces, composed of a finer strand of yarn that has been knitted around and around into a tube and that lies flat on the skein, hence the term "tape."
Because of their wide, flat surface, tape yarns tend to produce an open, crisp fabric that's ideal for summer wear. And since summer is here, we'll spend the rest of this month looking at the different kinds of tape yarns on the market. As you'll soon discover, they run the gamut from rugged to fluid, hefty to cuddly.
New This Week
Although normally iron-strong in composition, tape yarns can also be soft and delicate as Rowan's Cotton Tape demonstrates.
Deck the Walls
By popular demand, we've turned the 2002 Year in Yarn calendar centerfold into its very own poster that urges us all to "Relax, Dream, Connect, Create, Knit." Take a look!
