Knitter's Review April 24, 2003
|
The relationship between knitter and needles is much like that between musician and instrument. Needles are our vehicle for fiberly expression, and we don't abandon them easily.
I know that my most prized possession is a bag of knitting needles that once belonged to my grandma. Each time I take out a pair and start to work, I feel an immediate sense of comfort, connection, and inspiration.
This week's featured review shows just how far we'll go to preserve that connection with our needles, telling the story of an old favorite that has recently been revived.
New This Week
Are interchangeable needle kits as useful as their loyal users vow? And do the needles really work as seamlessly as their non-swappable counterparts? We take the Denise Interchangeable Knitting Needle kit out for a test drive to get some answers.
Noteworthy Events
The weekend of May 3-4, thousands of knitters, spinners, and fiber lovers will converge on the Howard County Fairgrounds in West Friendship, Maryland for the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. If you live anywhere in the area, I strongly urge you to attend. It's free, and you'll be surrounded by likeminded people and exquisite fiberly goodies.
Knitting Lessons Hits the Shelves
Earlier this month we previewed an excerpt from Lela Nargi's new book, Knitting Lessons. The book was finally released this week and is now available in stores. Read an excerpt from the book.
You'll Never Walk Alone
If you plan to attend any of this summer's fiber-themed events, consider wearing one of our T-shirts or Knitting Lady pins to identify yourself to other Knitter's Review readers. You'll be surprised how many of us are out there!
In the Forums
Do you wash your test swatches?
And many Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival attendees are planning an unofficial Knitter's Review lunchtime gathering on Saturday. If you're attending the show, you won't want to miss this!
