I still remember my first sweater. My local yarn shop had hundreds of patterns, but I couldn't find a basic, easy pullover pattern that matched my yarn's gauge.
Nipping it in the Budd
Interweave Knits' managing editor Ann Budd had the same problem when she worked in a yarn shop. She routinely took matters into her own hands, altering patterns to fit customers' needs.
Budd puts this experience to good use in her new book that hits the shelves this week. Called "The Knitter's Handy Book of Patterns," it may also be the last pattern book you'll ever have to buy.
If you're looking for more design power and flexibility, we'll be exploring knitwear design software packages the rest of this month. Are they just for the pros? We'll find out.
Retreat Update
Our November 8-10 retreat at Graves Mountain Lodge in Syria, Virginia, is coming together nicely. You'll design the perfect-fitting sweater, and be able to stock up on supplies at our on-site yarn store courtesy of Carodan Farm Wool Shop.
Full details are coming soon. You'll be able to reserve your spot at that time.
