This book showcases 10 of America's most talented knitwear designers who, as you may guess, have published patterns in Vogue Knitting.

Each chapter begins with a two-page profile of the designer and then features four or five of the most memorable patterns she ever did for the magazine.

The Players

In total there are more than 40 garments from Pam Allen, Lily Chin, Nicky Epstein, Nora Gaughan, Kristin Nicholas, Debora Newton, Mari Lynn Patrick, Michele Rose, Elizabeth Zimmerman, and Mag Swansen.

The Patterns

Trisha Malcolm did an admirable job of selecting patterns from the magazine's vast archives.

You'll find some of the best examples of each designer's work -- Elizabeth Zimmerman's First American Aran, a paper doll sweater from Nicky Epstein, and Norah Gaughan's eye-catching Dragonfly Pullover are just a few examples.

As you'd expect from Vogue Knitting, the layout is exceptionally clear and well illustrated, and the patterns are easy to read.

High Fashion is Hard Work

The point here is style and design. The book has just a few Very Easy Very Vogue patterns. The rest are definitely for intermediate to expert knitters.

If you're a beginning knitter, you may be better served by other books such as "Very Easy Knits: The Best of Very Easy Very Vogue."

Then again, like buying a size 8 dress when you're actually a size 10, this book could help motivate you to take your knitting skills to the next level.
